What Slows a Removal Down, and How We Skip It

Most delays on a tree job come from the same few places. Here is how we keep yours moving.

  • Waiting days for a quote

We come out and price it the day you call or text.

  • A tree right against the house

We climb it, cut it in short sections and lower each one, so no crane booking holds things up.

  • A second trip for the stump

We bring the grinder and do the stump on the same visit.

  • A yard left half cleared

Chipping, hauling and sweeping happen before we leave, same day.

Tree Service Master removes trees all over Vaughan and keeps the job moving. We come out the same day you call, give you a firm quote on the spot and book the work fast. Most single trees on a house lot come down, get cleaned up and leave the yard clear in one visit.

Signs a Tree Should Come Down

Plenty of worrying trees only need a trim. Removal makes sense when the risk can’t be pruned away or the tree has already died. We recommend taking a tree down when we see:

  • No leaves in season, bark falling off in sheets or mushrooms growing at the base.
  • A new lean, with cracked or heaved soil on the side opposite the lean.
  • A split trunk, or a fork with a crack running down between the two stems.
  • A hollow or soft trunk you can push a screwdriver into.
  • An ash with a thin crown, D-shaped exit holes or woodpecker damage. Emerald ash borer kills these, and our ash tree removal page covers them.
  • Roots lifting a driveway, walkway or foundation wall, where cutting them would leave the tree unstable.

If we see none of those, we tell you, and the call is yours.

How We Take a Tree Down on a Tight Vaughan Lot

Most Vaughan backyards have no room to drop a full tree in one piece. Thornhill and Patterson houses sit close together, and newer Vellore Village homes often have one narrow side gate into a fenced yard. So we take the tree apart from the top.

A climber ties in, cuts each limb and trunk section, and the ground crew lowers it on a rope through a friction device at the base. Pieces come down slowly and land where we want them, away from the house, the fence and the gardens. When the tree is a short stub, we drop the last piece at ground level.

The ground crew cuts everything into lengths two people can carry. If the only way out is through a 90 cm side gate, we carry it out by hand. Nothing gets dragged across your lawn on a chain.

Equipment We Bring

  • Climbing gear, rigging ropes and a lowering device for sectional work
  • Chainsaws sized for the limb, from small top-handle saws to long-bar saws for big trunks
  • A chipper at the curb, so branches leave as chips instead of a brush pile
  • A stump grinder, if you booked the stump on the same visit

Why Our Removals Finish Fast

Speed comes from planning on the first visit. When we quote, we look at the drop zones, the gate width, where the chipper parks and whether the stump is part of the job. On removal day the crew already knows the plan, so the work starts within minutes of arriving.

We also avoid the delays that stretch other jobs. We don’t wait on a crane for trees we can rig by hand, and we don’t leave a brush pile for a second pickup. The stump does not need a separate booking either.

Vaughan Trees We Remove Most

Older Woodbridge and Thornhill streets have big silver and Norway maples planted decades ago. Silver maples grow fast and drop limbs, and Norway maples often have tight forks that split in wind. Newer streets in Maple and Vellore Village were planted with ash and honey locust, and emerald ash borer has killed most of the ash that nobody treated. Spruce and Manitoba maple turn up in older backyards across Concord and Elder Mills.

Vaughan’s heavy clay soil matters too. It holds water, roots stay shallow, and a big tree can tip after a wet spring storm. Lots near the Humber River valleys in Woodbridge and Kleinburg sit on TRCA-regulated land, which can add a step before work starts.

Permits for Tree Removal in Vaughan

The City of Vaughan’s Tree Protection By-law 177-2025 requires a permit to remove any private tree with a trunk 20 cm or wider, measured 1.37 m above the ground. Dead, hazardous and ash trees still need a permit, but it carries no fee and no replacement requirement. A healthy tree that size needs a permit with an arborist report. Our guide on Vaughan tree permits covers the details.

The permit is valid for six months and has to be posted on the property while the work happens. City trees on the boulevard are a different matter. Never cut one yourself; call City of Vaughan Public Works at 905-832-8585.

What Drives the Price

We price each removal after seeing it, because two trees the same height can be very different jobs. Five things move the number:

  • Height and trunk width. More wood means more cuts, more rigging and more to haul.
  • Access. An open front yard is faster than a backyard behind a narrow gate.
  • What sits underneath. A roof, wires, a pool, a shed or a neighbour’s garage means slower, controlled lowering.
  • Wood condition. Dead and split wood needs extra rigging because it breaks unpredictably.
  • Stump work. Grinding on the same visit adds to the price but saves a second trip.

The table on this page shows the typical Canadian ranges. Your quote is firm before any work starts.

Getting Ready for Removal Day

A few small steps make the day go faster:

  • Move cars out of the driveway and away from the tree.
  • Unlock the side gate and keep pets inside.
  • Clear patio furniture, planters and toys from under the tree.
  • If the tree stands near a property line, let your neighbour know when we’re coming.

Leaning Trees

A lean on its own isn’t a reason to remove a tree. Many trees grow at an angle toward the light and stay that way for decades. The lean that worries us is a new one. Look at the ground on the side away from the lean. Cracked soil, a raised mound or roots pulling up through the lawn mean the root plate is moving, and the tree can go over in the next storm.

Leaning trees come down with extra care. We tie the top back toward the safe side before cutting, so each section falls away from the house instead of toward it.

Trees Near Wires and Roofs

Trees that touch the service wire to your house can come down with sectional rigging. We keep every cut clear of the line and lower the pieces away from it. The main power lines along the street are a different matter. Work within reach of those lines belongs to the utility, so if your tree grows into them, call Alectra Utilities first and we’ll do the rest once the line is clear.

Over a roof, we lower everything on ropes. Nothing lands on the shingles, the eavestroughs or the skylights.

Removing Several Trees at Once

Booking several trees together is faster and usually cheaper per tree. The crew sets up once, the chipper stays parked in one spot, and we finish all of it in one or two days instead of several separate visits. A common Vaughan job is a row of dead ash along a back fence, or two spruce crowding the front of the house. We price each tree on one quote, so you can choose which ones go.

After the Removal

Once the tree is down, the stump is the next question. You can leave it, have it ground below the grass, or have the whole stump dug out. Grinding is quickest and leaves chips you can top with soil and seed. Full removal suits a spot where you plan to build or plant again.

If you’re replacing the tree, plant the new one a few metres from the old spot, where the soil hasn’t been packed with old roots. Pick a species that suits Vaughan’s clay and the space you have. A tree that reaches 20 m doesn’t belong 2 m from a two-storey house.

Residential and Commercial Removals

We remove trees for homeowners, landlords, plazas and property managers across Vaughan. Commercial jobs often come with a parking lot to work around or tenants who need the entrance open. Tell us that when you call, and we’ll plan the work around it.

Tree Removal Questions

How soon can you take my tree down?

We quote the day you call. Once you approve it, we book the job as fast as the schedule allows, often within days. If the tree needs a City permit, the work waits for the permit.

How long does the removal itself take?

Most single trees on a house lot come down in a few hours, cleanup included. A big tree over the roof, or several trees, can take a full day.

Can you grind the stump the same day?

Yes. Ask for it on the quote and we bring the grinder on removal day, so there is no second visit.

Do I need to be home?

Not for most jobs. We need access to the tree, a clear driveway for the truck and a way to reach you by phone or text.

What happens to the wood?

We chip the branches and haul everything away. If you want firewood, we cut the trunk into rounds and stack them where you say.

Can you remove a City tree on the boulevard?

No. The City of Vaughan owns boulevard trees. Call Public Works at 905-832-8585 about those.
